SUGARHOUSE: A MEMOIR by Matthew C. Batt

When a season of loss tests the mettle of their marriage, Matthew Batt and his wife decide not to call it quits. Instead they purchase a dilapidated house in the Sugar House section of Salt Lake City. With no homesteading experience, they decide to seek salvation through renovation.

Good book, but could do without all the swearing. Living in SLC, it was nice to read a book from this area.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, but could do with less Mormon/local culture bashing. Come on Matt!
What I did like was the subplot on the family struggles with the grandfather, which I found both amusing and poignant. I think the author does a nice job of highlighting the juggling act that so many families face in trying to balance dignity of their elderly loved ones with the exasperation that they can, at the same time, provoke.
